What turned you on to becoming a graphic designer?

I’ve always been interested in art, since i was a kid. Firstly and most importantly for me it would be creative spirit which this profession carries with itself. I’ve had been doing graphic design on the side for years, so it was an easy decision to make for me, especially being a bit creative. But it definitely wasn’t planned in any conventional way. I was immensely captivated by graphic design and since then, I’ve known what I wanted to do in my life.

How would you describe your approach to design and could you sum up your process?

First is always coffee :). Coffee is everything! Then i go over my schedule for the day. Every day is different and I love it in that way. I have prepared logo questionnaire for my clients and after that everything starts with a good research process for me with a great understanding for client needs in the project itself and the magic starts there. Next step would be a lot of drawing and doing presentation work. I try not to present just design but a vision and possibilities of what that design could achieve.

Who or what has been the biggest single influence on your way of thinking?

The biggest single influence for me would be my good friend from Kiev, Elena Ivanchenko who owns her own a graphic design studio called Izyum Creative Group, and doing an amazing work. She helped me a lot to understand true art behind the graphic design and what should be the true value of a graphic designer. Had a great pleasure to call her my friend. I owe to her a lot and in a big way, she made me for who i am as a person and designer today. Thank you Lena for everything!

What would you say is your strongest skill and how have you honed that skill over the years?

I think it is very important to preserve uniqueness with a style of design, to be different in the sea of very talented and great designers. Different is always good and i aspire to be as different as possible. It is like a personal stamp for my own work. I think over the years i found myself very good at simple, clever and minimal illustration designs that with color i bring to life and i try to do them as much as possible. Yes i am a color dude for sure :). Every day you learn something new in this profession and there is always more room to enhance my own skills. That is why i am looking forward to each and every new day with new challenges to overcome.

What type of brief or project do you enjoy working on the most?

Oh that is a really hard question for me. I would not be able to set one apart from others. I had the opportunity to cooperate with really wonderful clients and colleagues over the last few years who appreciate my work and my dedication. I do not like having too much of borders in the projects. Always prefer to have more freedom so that i can be as creative as possible with finally perfect design in the end for my clients.

What are you currently fascinated by and how is it feeding into your work?

Love being outdoors and travel as much as possible to level a scale of sitting almost all day and working as a designer. That would be a negative thing about this profession. Therefore every free time that i can get i spend it outside enjoying nature or some amazing new travel destinations.

How do you survive as an artist in todays economy?

I just try to work as much as possible and a good way for that is to be flexible with your fees. It is really hard to be honest especially from where i am coming from. Serbia is a small country with an amazing creative and very talented people and Belgrade is my heart. I do not have any good advice regarding the economy but to keep doing amazing work and hoping for the best.

How do you find clients?

Actually i do not find them at all. They find me via my personal web site and social medias where i present all my previous projects and designs. They use my previous work as reference to their projects and everything goes from there.

What are you passionate about besides your work?

I love doing a lot of things. I am a big movie guy. Love to find time here and there to enjoy a good movie, tv show. Beside that i love to be enrolled in any possible sport or a workout (running, cycling, gym). Trying to live as healthy life as possible.

What’s the best piece of advice you have heard and repeat to others?

My dad gave me this piece of advice that I will always remember: “If you have time to do it wrong, you have time to do it again, therefore you can always make it right.”
